The Volkswagen Caddy Is Tough To Beat

The latest version of Caddy is the fourth generation of the famous compact van and VW has given this version a fresh new look. There’s a new range of engines and it comes in two variants, VW Caddy diesel van engine and VW Caddy engine. The new generation is enhanced with a seven-speed DSG gearbox, 4MOTION all wheel drive, Bluetooth compatibility, automatic lights on the corner and roof-rails. The Caddy has a robust, but tedious interior design. The plastics look like it will be solid sporting .While driving the inside road noise has been well blocked, it’s all very logical. The driver can reach the controls easily as they are well laid out. On dynamic long journeys the VW Caddy offers decent support and plenty of space for the driver and passengers. Volkswagen has presented more powerful and fuel efficient caddy diesel engines throughout the range.

Caddy range is available in four engines. These contain two low-powered 1.6-litre TDI engines which provide the power output of 74bhp and the other VW Caddy engine has 100bhp. The lower-powered 2.0TDI engine comes with 4MOTION ...
... (four-wheel drive system from VW) and has a power output of 108bhp, while the higher-powered 2.0-litre engine has an output of 138bhp. Fuel consumption stands at 48.7 miles per gallon. All Caddy engines are mated to a five-speed manual gearbox as a standard but a seven-speed DSG 'box is also available as an option. For the van drivers whose duty is to deliver goods across the towns and cities, the Caddy offers a car-like handling. The suspension is plagiarized from the Golf platform so the Caddy deals with twists pretty well, even when loaded.

It’s quite light-footed and although there is a little body roll when cornering giving the feel of a well set-up vehicle. The Volkswagen Caddy is a commercial vehicle which means it has a bouncy ride, but it’s doesn’t make an unpleasant ride at all. It corners and bends surprising well and doesn’t sway. The steering is satisfactorily weighted and accurate. The Caddy starts at £16k which makes it an expensive MPV and this is its bad point. You can buy a proper seven seat vehicle for less. The interior doesn’t have any swanky materials as it is based on a van. Everything is solidly engineered and the dashboard is taken from the Touran. The Caddy has quite an impressive load area.

It can handle the load length of 1780mm, width 1558mm limiting to 1170mm between the wheel arches, and the load height of the Volkswagen Caddy is 1257mm. The front of the loading area has the sliding door which leads to easy access for loading. If compared with the competitors the Volkswagen Caddy range is little more expensive but meanwhile they do offer a lot more for the money. The robust built quality, consistent design, and superb road handling and power output are the features which are very tough to beat. Reliability is not an issue as the Volkswagen Caddy has been around for long enough and no major issues have been reported so far.
