Iphone Rockets Apple's Market Share
It will not come as a great surprise to those users of the latest mobile internet technology but it is nevertheless confirmed, that advertising metrics show the share of Apple devices on the web is continuing to grow. Apple dominate the market and are set to continue with new devices on the horizon and the possible roll out of even more phones.
The latest indications come from Admob, a firm that tracks ad requests from more than 6,000 published sites in 160 foreign countries. According to their latest report. Worldwide requests from Apple devices grew 28 percent month over month to 1.2 billion in January. Building on its strong December, iPod Touch growth outpaced iPhone growth in top markets. The iPod Touch now represents 40 percent of Apple requests, up from 20 percent in September.
The Admob data confirms that the Apple iPhone enjoys a 17 percent share of the market and the iPod touch a 12 percent share. Combined they are together the number one device for mobile internet usage, and make up fifty one percent of all ad requests. This has got to be good news for Apple. Currently the economic downturn has been ...
... less noticeable in this sector and Apple appears at the moment to be riding the recession along with the rest of the tech sector. Other highlights from the report indicate that Blackberries have a 19 percent share while the G1 is the number 18 device in the U.S. with a nine tenths share in December. The Google Android phone has a 3 percent share in the US, and this is clearly a good number for a product so new to the scene.
Apple may well be producing new phones in an attempt to try and hold and extend past market gains. There are also continued rumors of a 99.00 dollar iPhone. Apple's September quarter iPhone sales of 6.9 million were very impressive. However Apple still have a long way to go to catch up with the likes of Samsung which sold 51.8 million phones in the last quarter of 2008. In order to do this Apple will have to introduce a new pricing strategy. An iPod like family of iPhones, starting at, say, 99 dollars, and going up to 299 dollars has been suggested and would appear to make the most sense.
The most likely route that Apple will take to raise its competitive edge will be to lower the price of the current iPhones by 100 dollars each by the middle of 2009. It is also rumored that they will introduce a new premium model at the price of 299 dollars. this model will have a greater colour choice pink, blue, purple, green and at least 32 gigabytes of storage with the potential for a greater range of premium features.
