Us Long Shore Insurance -get Benefits By Securing Your Marine Life

USLH refers to United States Longshore Insurance which is also known as Longshore Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA). This compensation act was initially passed by the U.S Congress in 1927. Generally, most of us are familiar about Workmen’s Compensation which is an insurance that provides medical expenses for the employers when they accidentally injured on duty. So the same type of benefits are provided to the maritime employees which is called USLH insurance where if a person get injured or occurs death on navigable waters of the U.S or while he/she is working on or near the water then this insurance coverage is applicable. It does not applicable if the injuries or deaths occur in off duty even if you are a driver or an equipment supplier and also this act excludes certain departments of employment such as Masters and Crew members of vessels.
To which departments USL&H insurance is applicable:
USLH Insurance is applicable only if it is an unfortunate event. The following are the departments which have this coverage.
• Adjoining pier.

• Engineers and Architects.
• Electricians.
• Engine Repair.
• Welders.
• Communications Repair.
• Concrete or Cement work.
• Dry-Dock.
• Building way.
• Refrigerator repair.
• Terminal.
• Marine Railway.
• Fire Extinguisher Service.
• Sheet Metal work.
• Dismantling.
• Painters.
• Heating or A.C Contractors.
• Building vessel workers.
• Pest Control.
Maritime Coverage and USL&H Risk Plan:
There is certain risk limit for the maritime insurance, the liability covers to some extent under this coverage. The eligible employers add the “Maritime Coverage Endorsement” to their employees for accidental exposure while working on navigable waters.
Maritime employers’ liability covers up to:
• For accidental body injury: $100,000 each accident.
• For injury by disease : $100,000 (overall amount)
• Transportation, Maintenance, Wages are also under the list of Maritime Coverage.
• Maritime minimum premium is $1000.
• Employers’ Liability Insurance provided to a limit $1,000,000.
This Maritime premium will be deducted from the employees’ wages. USLH insurance offers “Dual Coverage” facility but it has some rules and code to apply for this coverage. “Alternate Employer” endorsement is another option in Maritime insurance and this endorsement issued only to the person in favor of the company worker (should be known to employer). The alternate employer must be a current state employer and should have evidence of Uniform Business Identification number assigned by a particular state.
How to apply USL&H Coverage?
Applications and other necessary details are available in the website under “Apply for Coverage” tab. Applications are directly submitted to Sea Bright Insurance but this applications are accepted only from insurance producers who are licensed by the Washington State and from the brokers who acts on behalf of the employer. Complete list of insurance companies are available under U.S Labor website which are authorized to provide USLH insurance coverage. The procedure cost depends on each employers business process but basic charge is based on the payroll rate that is rates per $100 payroll.
