Pinhole Eyeglasses: A Timeless Solution For Vision Correction
Pinhole or aerobic eyeglasses provide protection to the eye since the ancient history of mankind. They were originally manufactured of wood, leather and bones carefully crafted with minute punctures which allow tiny, straight beams of light that are gentle to the eyesight. Animal skins were tied and used to hold these glasses in place.
Modern pinhole glasses are manufactured using high technology machinery utilizing laser technology to create holes, accurately at precise places on plastic and opaque lens. Due to the economical cost of pinhole eyeglasses, people generally prefer them to correct their vision problems. In some countries, pinhole eyeglasses are banned due to misconception in the community and medical fraternity about their usage and the imaginary threat to normal eyesight. The advertisements for pinhole glasses that claimed permanent cure has threatened normal eyeglass manufacturers ...
... and induced the government to moderate their usage.
There are two varieties of pinhole glasses; traditional and modern. Conventional pinhole glasses are made of arched, synthetic lens made of plastic, with tiny holes to restrict ultra-violet radiation that hurts vision. Their drawback was repulsive appearance when compared to modern pinhole glasses. Contemporary pinholes consist of translucent black glasses within plastic or metal frames that completely shelter the eyes from direct sunlight except for the miniature holes that are printed and glazed, instead of creating pinholes, to conceal the patterns. They look dignified and are very attractive.
Pinhole glasses are ideally effective as sun and computer glasses, and are beneficial to prevent and lessen the impact of myopia and cataract. They are useful when a person sits and watches television programs but should be shunned while maneuvering vehicles. The reason is very clear as when the person is exposed to bright light, he is able to improve focusing on the objects. But when a person with eyesight problems utilizes pinhole glasses in darkness, due to the entry of partial light-rays through the minute pinholes, his focusing strength diminishes.
The imperative nature of pinhole glasses that make it essential for modern users are that these glasses are ideal for perceiving objects that are located at any distance. Therefore if a person requires a different glass for reading and watching television, he can purchase a pair of pinhole eyeglasses that is suitable for both applications instead of procuring two normal eyeglasses. The eye focusing strength does not vary with time while utilizing pinhole glasses to improve eyesight. Pinhole glasses are scratch-proof and do not require regular cleaning.
