Making a cake and want to make it easier and more uniformly neat with the icing? You might want icing sheets to help you out a little. Effectively icing sheets are flat sheets of icing, what you do is place the icing sheets onto the cake and press them down gently in order for them to stick, in some cases you’ll have to add a little bit of water to the topside of the cake in order for it to stick properly. Effectively a large tray is filled with icing mixture and then evened off by a skimming device, the icing then sets and is cut up evenly into individual uniform icing sheets to be packaged and sold. If you’re making icing sheets yourself the process is similar but a lack of the mechanical components used in the industrialised production will make it a slower job that might take more time and precision to get right. The benefit of making your own icing sheets is customisation in terms of size and shape, if you have to make icing sheets to fit an unusual sized cake you can do so if there are no pre-made ones catering to the size of the cake.
