People often find a problem at the time of searching on internet, is the site they have visited is either not well designed or it's very difficult to get proper information on pages. Most people leave that site within few seconds. After long search if you couldn't find what you were looking to, you might stop searching. Most general internet users face this every day and it's very obvious. This is because people think that web design is really very easy. It's just not designing a site in Photoshop and then codes it to get a site. You need to keep few basic points in mind at the time of designing.

Good Design: Well designed sites often get more conversion in sale. Visitors feel comfortable and they rely a well designed site than a poor one.

Proper Use of Meta tags: Meta information is for search engines, as well as for visitors. Use concise but detailed information about the page in Meta tags. Using whole site information in all pages or wrong pages won't help.

Table Less Design: Table less design is very popular nowadays since we have to write less code and very easy to handle. In table based design we have to handle lots of tables, TRs, TDs. Often people get confused for tracking lots of loops. Using table less / Div based coding not only speedup the site but also gives more control over page editing.

Use of external style sheet instead of inline style: People often make this mistake of using inline style inside a page. It not only increases size of page but also you may need to implement same style over and over again throughout all pages of the site. Good practice is to create an external style sheet at the time of writing very first code for the page.

Use special formatting text wisely: Sometimes people use bold texts so frequently so that the page becomes awful. Over use of any style is bad for visual impact. Always choose eye soothing colors. Use of h1-h4 texts should be used where we have to put heading or sub heading. Sometimes I have seen sub heading at footer also, which is completely meaningless. These special formatting texts have great use in optimizing a page also. If you know proper use you can use them in great extent.
