Electrical wholesalers represent a key aspect of the supply chain in the electrical contracting industry and, to a lesser degree, the construction industry; they provide a vast range of products for electrical installations, as well as repair, maintenance and improvement (RM&I) work. While other end-users do exist — mainly within the industrial and public sectors — the vast majority of demand is ultimately dependent on construction output and, as such, this report includes an examination of building activity within the UK.

Electrical wholesalers stock an extremely broad range of products, including cables; wires; consumer units; distribution boards; switches; lighting; and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment. In the short term, the electrical wholesale market is expected to exhibit extremely subdued growth, as uncertain economic conditions and public-sector spending cuts continue to affect demand within the construction industry.
