Born in 1960 as a result of a joint venture between Thai Airways Company (TAC), which is a domestic carrier of Thailand and Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), Thai Airways offers both domestic and international flights to as many as 70 destinations worldwide. With its main operating base at the Suvarnabhumi Airport, the airline flies a fleet of 91 Airbus and Boeing aircraft. It also operates two subsidiary airlines - Nok Air, which is a low-cost air carrier and Thai Smile, a regional air carrier - to strengthen its services. The airline with its extensive reach has launched flight services in India with Thai Airways India managing the operations.

At present, it offers flight services to seven major cities in India and they are Ahmedabad, New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. Some of the popular flight routes operating by the airline are Delhi-Bangkok-Delhi, Mumbai-Bangkok-Mumbai, Kolkata-Bangkok-Kolkata, Chennai-Bangkok-Chennai, Hyderabad-Bangkok-Hyderabad, Bengaluru-Bangkok-Bengaluru and Bangkok-Gaya-Varanasi-Bangkok. The Royal First Class offers extra space of seven feet to offer more comfort to the passengers. The seats can recline to 180 degrees to convert it into a flatbed so that passengers can stretch out during the journey. Furthermore, they are also equipped with in-seat telephone and power outlet for laptop to provide enough privacy. The Royal Silk Class, on the other hand, has separate cabins to give more seclusion to the passengers. The seats come with five feet extra space to stretch out and recline to 170 degrees enough to make relax anyone. They are also fitted with telephone and power outlets.

The Premium Economy Class and Economy Class are also truly world class with the former offering larger seats and legroom and 122 degrees reclining facility. The Economy Class offers comfortable seats with levels of space to make passengers relax and refreshing all through the journey. For in-flight entertainment, the airline offers the latest Audio Visual on Demand with a choice of hundreds of channels, movies, music and games. There are large screens with touch-control commands to make it really exciting and convenient.

Through its subsidiary Thai Smile, it is planning to offer direct non-stop flights from Ahmedabad, Mumbai and New Delhi to major cities in Southeast Asia. The direct flight Ahmedabad-Bangkok-Ahmedabad will operate on all Sundays and Wednesdays of the week. However, the direct flights from Mumbai and Delhi will connect Phuket. Flying an all-new Airbus A320 aircraft, it will offer both the Business Class and Economy Class of service at an affordable price. The airline operates as many as 53 flights a week now.
