Help The Body Recover Through Prp Treatment

PRP procedure is one of those miraculous healing mechanisms which are done to help injured muscles and ligaments recover from damages. For those who didn’t know, plasma is the liquid part of the blood in which the red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets are found. You will be surprised to know that normally, the platelet composition in the plasma is merely 10% but in PRP treatment, the platelet count gets flipped to a whopping 90% of the plasma.
What is meant by PRP procedure?
PRP, as the name suggests, is rich in platelet count of the plasma. Platelets contain strong healing components, better known as “growth factors” which help the body recover from illnesses and diseases in a given time period. PRP is a one-of-a-kind healing therapy which does not require you to undergo any surgery, yet it produces results as good as (or probably, better!) than that from a surgery.
PRP is nothing extraordinary or great that will put you in awe of it. It is a simple mechanism in which the blood taken from one’s own body is modified in such a way that its power gets multiplied to produce large quantities ...
... of the growth factors, thereby helping the wound to heal faster.
When does an injury call for a PRP?
Research studies suggest that PRP works best on soft tissue injuries such as ligament sprains and muscle tears. Diseases like golfer’s elbow, bicipital tendinitis, trigger finger, ITB syndrome, meniscus tears, arthritis, Achilles tendinitis, ankle sprain, whiplash injury, ligament sprain, and other such related diseases are targeted by PRP to help patients relieve them of these diseases. Such injuries are most commonly found in sportspersons- be it cricketers, athletes, soccer players, or any other sport which requires plenty of exhaustive physical activity.
How to go about PRP procedure?
Although it may seem easy, the PRP treatment needs the expertise and skill of an experienced doctor. An hour before the surgery, the doctor collects a sample of the patient’s blood and spins the same in a special centrifugal machine, which concentrates the platelets in the blood. After numbing the affected part with a local anesthesia, the plasma concentrate is injected into the target body part under musculoskeletal ultrasound guidance.
The growth factors in the platelets get activated once they reach the problem area. The inflammatory reaction of the growth factors pushes for an increased blood flow, which in turn promotes formation of soft tissues and proteins needed for the reconstruction of the damaged tissues in the body. The process continues till new tissues are not formed and the injury has not healed.
One must keep in mind that during the PRP procedure, there might be some level of pain and discomfort to the patient, but it is temporary and resolves on its own as days pass by. People who suffer from severe anemia, active systematic infection, active cancer and abnormal platelet count are advised to stay away from this procedure since it could complicate things for them.
