Top 3 Mistakes To Avoid While Wearing Cpap Machine

Sleep related disorders can show fatal results on both immediate as well as long term basis. The immediate aftereffects include drowsiness throughout the day, lack of concentration, feeling irritated, mood swings, hyperactivity etc. and long term results include obesity, hypertension and increased risk of myocardial infarctions (heart attack), atherosclerosis, and high BP. Sleep diseases like Sleep Apnea (SA) are known to cause high fatalities in both professional as well as personal lives. Here’s an overview regarding some of them:
Car accidents: Sleep deprivation has been highly linked with car accidents. Sleep disorder related patients can fall during the day within a second, and if they are behind the wheels, they can risk the lives of many.
Relationship problems: Sleep disorders such as SA cause heavy snoring. This can disturb the partners by breaking their sleep multiple times during a single night. Due to such conditions, a lot of partners start sleeping in separate rooms, leading to lack of physical intimacy.
Memory problems: Due to lack of concentration, ...
... a person can suffer from poor memory. The inability to comprehend what the opposite person is saying can result in memory problems and might hamper work as well as college assignments. You might forget an important office chore to be done or might just forget that you have to study for an upcoming unit test.
Sleep Apnea can be treated by using a Cpap Machine. Cpap stands for continuous positive airway pressure. Since a patient suffering from SA has problems breathing throughout the night, CPAP machines induce air pressure that enables easy passage of oxygen till the lungs. Though CPAP devices can be uncomfortable to wear, since they come in the form of nasal masks, here’s how you can avoid common mistakes and get used to them:
Avoid wrong sized mask: There are a wide variety of masks available for treating SA. While some are worn over the nasal area including your mouth and have belts that extent till the ears, there are other machines that can be places at the entrance of the nasal area. It’s not about which one is smaller, it’s just that you should wear the one that suits you the best.
Avoid wearing it directly during sleep time: The first time you are about to wear the nasal mask, make sure you put it on at least half an hour before sleeping. This will make you get accustomed to the sounds of the machine and not cause inconvenience while sleeping.
Removing the mask subconsciously: A lot of SA patients get up in the middle of the night only to find the mask fallen on the floor. Make sure that if that’s the case, you wear the one with belts so that the machine sticks to your nasal area.
