Almost all brides are enthralled to change surname after marriage. But unlike earlier, today most women like to retain their surnames which they have inherited by birth even after marriage. This is so, since the world is not seeing women as mere vulnerable gender anymore, but an equally capable and strong contender in any field, just like their counterpart. The women are now more expressive and do not shy away from voicing their opinion; and since they have become aware of their own identity, they often disagree to change their surname just because they are married!

Apart from the identity preservation, with most women being career oriented, they do not have time to face any official issues while changing their surname in all of the important documents, which includes their passport, check book, passbook, etc. The whole process of changing name after marriage is very stressful and tiring. If you are a service holder, there will be many other documents which will bear your previous surname. This may create a lot of paper work at your workplace ...
... as well. In case you own a business, the sudden change will prompt a lot of confusion for the clients, customers, suppliers and other related people. Some feel that changing a surname will snatch away from them a part of their identity.

There are some important documents where changing name after marriage is compulsory. The first and the foremost are all government records, like photo identity proof, driver’s license, passport etc. All these can only be done after there is a written legal document in support of the change. The second priority would be informing all organizations where an account or membership is held. There again the marriage certificate and the name change order has to be shown. Different companies have different procedures for the name change, and they have to be followed accordingly. There are many other places where the name change may not occur before but later on it may create problems. These include library or any other club membership, magazine subscriptions etc. Whether you decide to change surname after marriage or not, the entire process has to be carried out very diligently and smoothly so that no confusion can bother you later on.
