Shimla, located among the pristine hills of the Himalayas, is a popular hill destination of India. Having enjoyed the status of being the summer capital of India during the British Regime in India, Shimla still enjoys huge popularity among tourists who love visiting the serene hill stations to spend their vacations. Shimla is also known as the King of the mountains. True to its name, Shimla is wrapped by heavy woodlands of wooden plants, rhododendrons, deodars and oak. Shimla is located in the North-West of Himalaya at an altitude of 2159 meters and is one of the best hill stations of India.

Perched at an altitude of 2159 m above sea level, Shimla is located towards the southern parts of the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The temperature range is not very high and the maximum temperature rarely crosses 25°C during summers. Winters are cold due to the chilly winds from the upper Himalayas. The markets here are famous for items like handicrafts, wood and metal work, shawls and woollen garments, Tibetan carpets and Tibetan jewellery and trinkets along with jam, jellies, squashes and other such processed foods.

Shimla encounters subtropical environment with primarily awesome winter seasons and usually very pleasant in summers as the temperature is not very high. Usually the environment is often shrouded by frost. The best time to visit Shimla is from April to August and mid September to late November. Conditions generally range from −4°C to 31°C over the course of the year.

Shimla is not only famous for its beautiful locales and because it is a hill station but it is also renowned for its colonial architecture. Shimla has maintained the beauty of historical buildings for a long time due to its unique and attractive architectural styles. Usually, there were two common styles of architectural buildings namely neo-gothic and tudorbethan. The city never fails to surprise its visitors with unique and interesting outdoor activities. One can also enjoy adventure sports that the city offers at many locations. The capital of summer sports is the Kurfi where there are Skiing activities that are exciting as well as full of thrill. There is a place called Narmada that is also famous for the sports activities. Some other popular types of outdoor activities are trekking, shopping, ice and roller skating etc.

Shimla is well connected to the rest of the world through all major modes of transportation including rail, road and airlines. While Jubbarhatti airport connects the land through air, Kalka connects the land through rail.
