Ajmer is located at a distance of 135 kilometres from Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. Ajmer is surrounded by the Aravalli range and is located on the lower slopes of Taragarh hill. Taragaṛh Fort, the fort of Ajmer and the seat of the Chauhan rulers, is claimed to be the first hill fort of Asia and is located at the top of the Taragarh hill providing a breathtaking view of the city below. Shah Jahan later added five pavilions, known as the Baradari, between the garden and the lake.

Located at the foot of a barren hill, the Dargah-e- Sharif is the place where the Khawaja Moin-ud-din Chisti's mortal remains lie buried. The Dargah has a beautiful marble dome and a courtyard, surrounded by a silver platform. It's believed that the tomb is a place of wish fulfillment for those who pray with devout and pure hearts. People of all religious faiths visit the Dargah and make offerings of rose and jasmine flowers to seek the blessings of the Khawaja.

The best time for Ajmer travel is during the festival of Uras when the care taker of the mosque is appointed during the festival and he remains in the office for one year.
