The long, smooth blades of grass are soothing to eyes but are tough to be maintained. Regular mowing and watering is not always possible; hence, weeds began to grow destroying the beauty of a traditional green manicured lawn. Here lies the importance of artificial grass and artificial lawns, also known as synthetic grass. Artificial grass is generally made of fibers. Thus, the grass does not break off easily. Fiber is strong and it is easy to be maintained and lasts for long years. With proper care, artificial grass can last up to 20 to 30 years. The second use of artificial grass is to provide an artificial surface for skiing and snowboarding resorts. It has several usages in an airport. Rescue and fire fighting vehicles can smoothly drive during any crisis, as can planes that veer off the runway. It is always bright green providing a beautiful landscape. Erosion from aircraft maneuvering is much reduced. Artificial lawn and grass fulfills the desire to have a green field where natural grass cannot grow due to rough environment conditions. Moreover, maintenance cost of artificial grass and lawns is much less than natural grass.

Just as all, manmade inventions come with some negative shades; artificial lawns are not an exception. Old artificial grass when is exposed to skin may cause abrasions and burns largely than natural grass. This is a serious issue for sports like soccer. Line markings required for different sports gets a permanent mark on synthetic grass fields making it difficult to replace it with new markings in multipurpose fields where various sports are played, often leaving the fields in a cluttered appearance. Keeping all these disadvantages in mind, the artificial lawns are gaining popularity due to its cost effectiveness and easy maintenance.
