How To Beat Rising Petrol Prices On Your Budget
Rising petrol prices are one of the top ten causes of concern in people's budgets today. In some cases, money for gas could be taking a bite out of money put aside for groceries. Is there a way that you can balance your budget and tackle high gas prices at the same time? You bet there is - all it takes is a little planning.
Watch Yourself
Your plan to beat rising petrol prices needs to be two-fold; on one hand, you need to start thinking about ways to reduce fuel consumption. On the other hand, you also need to look into ways to budget how much you spend on gas. First take note of how much you spend on fuel each month - don't forget to note how frequently you fill up and how you pay for your gas, as well. Now take a look at your spending habits. Are you using more than one credit card to pay for fuel? This is one way in which a lot of people end up spending more than they need to on gas - restrict your gas payments to one credit card or better still, use cash.
Now take a look at how often you fill up your tank. Do you notice any periods when you tend to fill up more than usual? This happens to a lot of ...
... people, especially during the weekends. This could either be due to running more errands or because people make more road trips during that time. When doing your errands, make it a point to club all of them together so you can cover everything in one trip. While you don't need to cut out your road trips completely, going for shorter drives will certainly save you a lot of money and gas.
The Gas Plan
Some of the most valuable tips don't have to do with gas at all - take for instance your tire pressure. Keeping your tire pressure at optimum level actually reduces your fuel consumption because it carries the vehicle easier. The same goes for your air filters; cleaner air filters means air can easily get to your engine, which means you burn less fuel. Another way to tackle rising petrol prices is to do a little comparative shopping. Most of us will simply go to the nearest filling station when we need gas. But did you know that some stations offer fuel at cheaper rates? It's also a good idea to do your filling up on Wednesdays, when the prices are at their weekly low.
It also won't hurt you to make a few lifestyle changes in order to beat high gas prices. For example, if you can carpool to work, organize that with some co-workers. If you can take the bus to work or even just half-way, do that - you'll be surprised at how much money this can save you. If you have a large vehicle like an SUV that really drinks a lot of gas, consider downsizing to a smaller vehicle. The smaller and lighter your car is, the less fuel it will burn. These tips are just some easy yet effective ways that you can use to personally tackle rising petrol prices.
