Medical writing is an ethical way of constructing scientific documents or manuscripts based on medical research and investigations. Medical writing is also widely known as scientific writing, medical communications or scientific communications. Medical writing, in general, focuses on the process by which a complex and unorganised data or idea can be organised and presented in a very clear, concise, realistic, absolute and convincing manner.

Medical writing is usually done by an experienced and specialised writer, who may or may not be involved directly in the conducted research. A medical writer is usually a professional who works with the fellow doctors, researchers, scientists, and other medical experts. A medical writer constructs manuscripts that clearly and effectually define the research results, product use, and other medical information. Besides, the medical writer makes it sure that the produced manuscripts conform to the journal or other regulatory guidelines concerning its content, format, and structure.

Nowadays, medical writing is being widely ...
... sought after by several emerging therapeutic and pharmaceutical industries, as well as medical researchers and scientists. Medical writing is gaining popularity and importance in the present world because the medical and research organisations, as well as medical and science professionals are accepting the fact that they require experts with special skills and talents in the medical writing field in order to produce well-organised manuscripts, which will present the research data and results in a remarkably clear and concise form. The increasing number of new drugs and diseases goes through the complicated method of clinical trials and regulatory procedures, which lead to market approval. For this purpose, a huge demand for well-written and standards-compliant manuscripts was generated, so that these well-structured manuscripts can be easily and effectively read and understood by medical and science practitioners.

Medical writing can be classified into two types:
1) Regulatory medical writing: This type of medical writing deals with the organisation of manuscripts required by regulatory agencies during the approval process for drugs, devices and biologics. These include clinical research protocols, clinical study reports, patient informed consent forms, investigator brochures and review documents involving the data gathered by a company while developing a medical product.
2) Educational medical writing: This type of medical writing deals with the production of manuscripts about drugs, devices and biologics for general, as well as specific audiences like health care professionals. These include data presentations for medical conferences, medical journal articles for physicians and pharmacists, sales reports for newly launched drugs, etc.

Depending upon the high demand and requirement of medical writing in various fields of science and medicine, medical or research professionals and organisations assign it to a professional medical writer or medical writing service.
