When candidates apply for a job, it somehow reflects the general trend, albeit for a small period of time. Government jobs were the cynosure of every candidate’s eyes in the 20th century. There were many people who were taking up government jobs and even there were jobs in plenty for the number of qualified people at that point of time.

As India enters into the 21st century and a decade has passed, still abulations have been found towards the government jobs or sarkari naukri. It can obviously be called as a trend in the most elongated form. To provide a backing factor which also suggests that the trend is actually in force, there are the high turnouts for SSC recruitment 2013. SSC or Staff Selection Commission is a body in India, which carries out recruitment to various departments and organisations in the country.

• High turnouts, plentiful posts and online exams as pointers

By the end of 2012, there was the advertisement for assistant Grade II jobs in Food Corporation of India which numbered around 6000 and there were some lakhs of applicants for the posts. A similar turnout is being expected ...
... for the SSC recruitment 2013 in many new advertisements. About 1500 posts of engineering assistant and technicians are scheduled to be included in the Prasar Bharati recruitment drive. CGL or Common Graduate Level posts in different government departments like income tax, excise, customs, etc are to be filled up by SSC recruitment 2013, through written and proficiency tests. Also, the SSC is going to fill up more than 10,000 posts of constable general duty and rifleman in various armed forces in India.
All of these posts in SSC CGL advertisements, the constables in armed forces, engineering assistants and technicians, etc are in various government departments. When Staff Selection Commission gives the advertisements for such sarkari naukri, candidates put in their applications in huge numbers. Further testimonies of the high turnout are seen from the change in arrangements in application forms and admit cards. Nowadays, most of the applications for SSC recruitment 2013 are in online format, while the admit cards for different examinations would have to be downloaded through the official SSC portal. Due to the huge number of candidates, such a medium becomes easy for scrutinising the applications and also uploading of the admit cards in the same format for everyone.

• SBI PO announced and clerical on the brink

There are also large turnouts for huge number of vacancies in State Bank of India, which was announced a year back. More than 20,000 clerical and probationary officer positions would be filled up in the coming years starting from 2013, as per the announcements. Since the SBI recruitment 2013 for probationary officer recruitment has been declared to be held in 23rd April, 2013, the candidates are all busy putting in their applications. Although not directly working under the government, the SBI is the largest nationalised bank of the country, both in terms of number of operational centres as well as customers. Serving in any post in SBI is as good as working in a government organisation. It is also sometimes better as the officer ranked posts have a good pay scale.

The number of candidates appearing for SSC and SBI recruitment 2013 would probably not be possible to be counted as these exams are conducted on an all India basis. But still, looking from the crowd that gathers at different centres across the country, it can be estimated that the total number must be in millions. High turnout is therefore a conclusive affirmation of the trend of Indian masses opting or at least trying for sarkari naukri in different cadres and groups.
