Why not make your mind up to having a greener 2013? The thing about going green and doing your part in saving the environment is that it's not that too difficult at all, and the best part is that it will give you instant gratification. Here are some of the simple, yet very practical things you can do this year to help make the earth a greener place.

Be a Light Traveller. Travelling light saves you a lot of time, because it means you will spend less time packing your things. It will also you a lot of energy. At the same time, it will help you save the environment. The lesser the luggage you carry, the lesser the fuel needed to carry it. When going to the grocery, for instance, shake the contents of your bag or purse onto the table before you leave and put back only what you know you will really use. Use this principle when you're going for a long vacation as well.

Reduce Your Social Circle. Instead of coping with millions of status updates and emails, downsize your social circle and only invest your time in people you really want to build relationships with. The lesser people you will have to deal ...
... with online, the lesser time your computer will have to spend running. And after all, a few really deep relationships is better than a thousand friends in Facebook whom you don't really talk much to.

Go for "Sole" Food. By "sole" we imply that the food is made up of only a single ingredient. Processed foods usually have more than five ingredients and aside from the fact that they are not good for your health, producing them also creates a negative impact to the environment. You can take things slow, though, like starting with food products that have five ingredients and less.

Keep Only What You Love. According to studies, an average person nowadays buys one piece of clothing every five and a half days. This makes us think that acquiring things has really become a national pastime. Considering the numbers, though, it's also safe to say that people don't just acquire, they amass. To avoid this bad habit, commit to only buying and keeping the stuff you will actually use and take care of.

Make a De-Clutter List. Having a minimal list will help you de-clutter your life a lot more efficiently. In the list, include the areas where you need de-cluttering the most. It could be your time in front of the computer reading emails and checking status updates on Facebook, or your time watching your favorite television program.

Switch to a Green Energy Supplier. Gas and electricity you use at home can only have two types of sources: sustainable and non-sustainable. If your current energy provider is not providing you with clean energy, find an energy company that does. In Australia today, there are more than a dozen energy providers that are committed in providing environmentally-friendly energy and energy related products, with Origin Australia leading the way (visit SwitchWise website for more info). By switching, you will not only save the environment, but save your wallet as well.
