Serving the poor by donating a part of the income is one of the major tenets of Islam. Zakat and sadaqqah are collected from the Muslims on the basis of their income and are used for purposes of charity. There are many muslim aid organizations that function from various parts of the world. They all strive to eradicate poverty from the rest of the world. One of the major aims of these organizations is to provide relief during natural disasters. They function according to the teachings of Islam. They are bound by the religion for tackling poverty. They do this by empowering the individuals to live with dignity by supporting initiatives for economical and social justice. For them aid is an integral, part of the religion.

Umbrella Organization

Leading British Muslim organizations got together to form an umbrella organization for providing islamic aid to the poor and the needy as per the teachings of Islam. Today, they operate from thirteen countries. They are Cambodia, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Kenya, Lebanon, Gambia, Pakistan, ...
... Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Jordan and Somalia apart from UK. Emergency relief operations began with the floods in Bangladesh and later it was extended to Palestine and Afghanistan suffering from internal conflicts. Today, they are providing funds for relief works in more than 70 countries.

Poverty alleviation Programs

This organization believes that in order to eradicate poverty it is not enough to address the symptoms but the real causes for helping the people effectively. More than 50% of their funds are spent on long term projects. They equip the individuals with necessary skills and provide them resources for leading a better life. They work for fulfilling the needs of the poor people without any consideration for nation, community, religion or any other external criteria. They work in tandem with the communities they serve and makes sure that the solutions to problems are found within and not imposed from any outside forces.
