Things to do in Mysore
Located at the base of Chamundi Hills, Mysore is the second largest city in the state of Karnataka. Mysore is a beautiful and a quiet city and is also called the Palace City of India. Things to do in Mysore must include a visit to the Mysore Palace (A mixture of Hindu, Muslim, Rajput, and Gothic styles of architecture) also known Amba Vilas Palace and was the official residence of the erstwhile royal family (the Wodeyars). A visit to the busy local market would prove interesting and fruitful as some typical gifts like Agarbatis (incense sticks) and local perfumes could be purchased from the Devraja Market at extremely economical prices. A climb up the Chamundi Hill to visit the Chamundi Temple for a Darshan of goddess Chamundeswari also known as Durga would be an interesting thing to do in Mysore. A walking tour around Mysore would reveal some interesting facts about the history of Mysore (the tour should ideally be accompanied by a guide).

A treat for wildlife enthusiasts would be a visit to the nearby Nagarhole National Park, Mudumalai National Park, the wildlife sanctuaries at B R Hills and Melkote, bird sanctuaries at Ranganathittu and Kokrebellur, other places of historic interest around Mysore are Srirangapatna, Somanathapura and Talaka.
When to visit Mysore
Climatically the best period to visit Mysore is between November and April during this period the weather is pleasant with very little rain and is the ideal time for outdoor activities. A visit coinciding with 10-day Dasara festival would be a visit to remember during the 10- day Dasara festival which is celebrated with great pomp and show, leading artists of national fame perform on the Mysore Palace grounds. On the day of Vijaya Dashami, a parade with liveried elephants and other displays on platforms start from the palace grounds and moves in the city.
Sightseeing in Mysore
With many attractions to suit everyone, sightseeing in Mysore would be fun. Different places could be visited by hiring a taxi, auto rickshaw or going on a conducted tour.
