Why You Should Beware Of Free Web Hosting

If you’re a business owner looking to start a website, you’ve undoubtedly heard that there is free web hosting available. And, always trying to stay within your company’s budget, you may have been tempted to use it. But there are many reasons why you should consider setting room aside in that budget for paid web hosting, as anything else could hurt not just your website, but your business too.
The biggest problem that comes with free web hosting is the amount of ads that constantly appear on your site, and that won’t be for your company. Because companies that offer free web hosting don’t make any money from their customers, they must rely on ads to bring in any income. Those ads will be ads of their choosing, and you will have no say over what they’re for, where they’re placed on your site, or how many of them there are. Therefore, they’ll make your website look unsightly, you could potentially be advertising for your competition, and visitors will be turned off by the unprofessional appearance.
Due to the fact that free web hosts don’t charge any money, they also don’t have to provide the ...
... best service out there. Because of that, free web hosts often don’t offer any support whatsoever, pointing their customers to open forums and chat rooms if they have a problem. In these areas however, you’ll only be speaking to other customers, and not the actual web host who can solve the problem for you.
Along with not getting any support, and not to mention being on a shared server with hundreds of other websites, you will also face a number of limitations when using a free web host and dedicated server. This could be anything from providing tracking codes to your customers or uploading different templates and scripts to your site. And if you want to have any kind of e-commerce or shopping carts on your site, free web hosting simply won’t be able to provide it.
One of the biggest problems business owners find when they use a free web host is that they’re not actually dealing with the company they thought they were. While they may sign up for space with someone, even from a certain company’s website, it could actually be a reseller of that web server space. Resellers are individuals or companies that rent space from a web host and then divide that space up so that it can be rented out to other, third-party customers.
Signing up with resellers is not necessarily a bad practice, but is best left for individual, personal websites. If your business is going to be running the site, you’ll want to deal directly with the web host if there’s a problem. And when working with a reseller, you simply won’t be able to.
Free web hosting can be a good option for small personal websites or blogs. But if you’re going to be doing any kind of business on your website, or promoting your company, paying the extra fee will be well worth it in the end.
