Deccan odyssey, the luxurious palace on wheels is a great way to explore the places of importance in the state of Maharashtra. It is a combined venture of the Maharashtra government and the Indian Railways to promote tourism. Along with being a train that covers some of the most popular tourist spots, it also is a 5-star hotel on wheels. Equipped with several amenities, the Deccan Odyssey offers a very unique experience comparable to none other.
The Route
The Deccan odyssey luxury train starts from Mumbai every Wednesday evening and visits Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Goa, Belgaum, Kolhapur, Nasik, and Aurangabad and back to Mumbai. The first destination Ratnagiri is a port city on the Arabian Sea coast. From here we make our way to Sindhudurg which is a fortress city built by Shivaji’s master architect. Next stop is Goa, the party capital of India. The next destination Belgaum has several temples of architectural importance. One of the major attractions along this route would be the Ajanta and Ellora caves in Aurangabad. These caves are UNESCO world heritage sites and the paintings and sculptures inside them ...
... are defined by the Archealogical Survey of India as “the finest surviving examples of Indian art, particularly paintings”. These caves are a testament to the fact that creativity is independent of the external world as people of that age were able to showcase their skills even with the lack of technology that we have today.
Features
The Deccan Odyssey is not called the Palace on Wheels for any reason. It is designed and decorated in the ornate style which reflects the ways of Indian royalty. The interior of this unique tourism venture is second to none of the Hotels in India. They have been inspired the important tourist spots the train visits. Out of the 21 coaches of the train, 13 of them accommodate passengers. There are two restaurants on board, Peshwa I and Peshwa II that serve Indian and continental cuisines. It also has its own bar which well stocked with wine and liquor. A spa that offers body massage and facials are in place to rejuvenate your body. It also comes equipped with a business centre for your business needs. Equipment rental as per your requirements is also available.
Reserving your space on Deccan Odyssey
Reserving your seats on this luxurious train is recommended if you do not want to miss out on the fun. The Maharashtra government’s tourism website provides the necessary infrastructure to book your seats. However, it is better to take the help of travel agents who will be in a position to get an overall better deal with the help of their connections with the people in the tourism industry.
