Washing Towels

The first step of washing towels is separating them on the basis of dark and light colors. This will prevent any kind of color running.

Do not use fabric softener on towels because it can damage them. The chemicals in fabric softener will flatten your towel and reduce their absorbing tendency over time.

Washing towels with warm water will kill germs and bacteria. It is a rule that higher the heat, more effective the water will be against killing germs.

Choosing a Detergent

If you choose the right detergent for washing towels, it will increase the life. A mild, phosphate free detergent is best for cleaning purpose.

You can make a phosphate free detergent at home by mixing 60ml borax and 60ml washing soda than adding it to phosphate free detergent. Apart from cleaning towels, the solution will deodorize and disinfect the fabric giving it a bright & clean look.

You can also add vinegar in the detergent solution to give an extra softness to the towels.

Drying

Drying your towels in sunshine will kill bacteria and give them a fresh look. The towel will become stiffer on drying outside but it will regain the softness after coming in touch with moisture.

Overly dried towels will become hard. Therefore, stop the tumble dryer if you are washing the towels in machine. It is advised that towels should be taken out of the dryer when they are 95-97 percent dry.

Do not set high drying heat as it will untangle the fibers, causing damage to the towel.

Before drying the towels, ensure that all the stain are removed properly. In case, towels are not cleaned properly before they are dried, there are chances of these turning into permanent marks. This will give an untidy look to the towel, no matter how often and carefully you wash them.
