At InfoComm 2012, which is the major digital equipment and audio-visual solutions industry trade show, large digital screens were hands-down, the break-out sensation of the show.

Visitors and business buyers alike were amazed at the growing size of display screens for various applications. No longer are 30-40 inch screens adequate for company lobby areas, boardrooms, university classrooms and government centers. Now, the forthcoming standard in digital screens looks to be those in the 70-100 inch digital displays.

Both Sharp and Samsung introduced large digital displays at the InfoComm 2012 show in Las Vegas. Sharp released a 90-inch LED digital screen and Samsung came out with a 75-inch screen of its own. These screens, both list priced around $10,000, are seen as the next step in audio-visual solutions for the increasingly screen-centric industry.

Industry analysts point out that these massive LCD screens might eventually replace projectors for many applications that show images onto large areas. This could be a business boon for many audio-visual systems integrators that offer LED and LCD technology equipment ...
... and services to restaurants, nightclubs, faith institutions and company conference rooms.

The industry is getting excited about TV technology. Over 15 percent of attendees say TV technology is “the most exciting technology you see on the horizon,” according to a small open-ended survey of integrators attending the CE Pro 100 and Commercial Integrator summits.

Some of the benefits of these large-scale TV screens over projectors include not having bulbs and lamps to change; no maintenance of filters; effectiveness in certain light conditions, and they also fit in spaces that projectors might not. In most cases, adding a large digital display will depend on the application.

From retail to restaurants, conference rooms to information displays, applications for digital signage continue to grow. They simply are a versatile piece of an organization’s operations. Digital displays help to inform customers of deals and promotions; can be used as digital wallpaper to bring a space to life or can help generate revenue by use within an advertising network.

One of the new mid-size digital displays is the Samsung P50HP LCD display. This vertical-horizontal display shows company images, HD video and more with great expression. Its Set Back Box (SBB) feature allows for effective expandability, while the built-in network module provides for easier control and overall management. Plus, the SBB option adds to the wide variety of functional support, either via a digital network or a TV system.

You can use more than one Samsung LCD display to build an amazing wall of visual stimulation. A video wall processor built into every Samsung LFD (Large Format Display) allows you to create impressive video walls in configurations from 1 x 5 to 5 x 5. Plus, depending on your images and visuals, the Samsung LFD can be configured either to a vertical or horizontal position to best suit your needs. There’s also a built-in cooling fan.

As the world becomes more visual and less text-oriented, it’s time to start speaking in sight concepts.
