Managing an office is very different from managing your own academic career. It is important that office administrators be comfortable in communicating through various platforms, like email, skype, MSN, etc. As office manager, you should also be comfortable in communicating with clients and employees over phone.

5. Systemise repetitive tasks: If you find that you are doing the same task over and over again, you need to create the right system for it. For instance, if you are answering the same client query every now and then, you can resolve it by putting all the questions all the questions together in one place and creating an email template. The next time a client asks you the same question, you open the email template, type in the client’s email address in the ‘to’ field, and send. As an alternative solution, you can create a FAQ section in your website and direct client enquiries there.
