Fluzone® Flu Vaccine Wards Off Influenza

Its flu season and everyone is susceptible. The flu is an equal opportunity virus and the only people that are really protected from it are those who take the time to get vaccinated. There are many flu vaccines to choose from, and one of the more reliable ones is Fluzone® by sanofi pasteur, Inc. Whether you are young or old, there is a Fluzone dose just for you, from infants to seniors over the age of 65.
Fluzones trivalent formulation.
Like other injectable vaccines for the 2012-13 flu season, Fluzones trivalent formulation contains three strains of the flu virus identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as being prevalent for the 2012-13 flu season. These strains are: influenza A (California H1N1 like virus), influenza A (Victoria H3N2 like virus) and influenza B (Wisconsin like virus). That means that even if you received a flu vaccine last year, you will need to get vaccinated again ...
... this year to ensure you are protected against all three strains.
Age-specific dosing makes Fluzone more effective.
Fluzone is a highly effective flu vaccine containing multiple presentations that are specific for various age groups from young children to seniors. Fluzone is indicated for active immunization of persons 6 months of age and older, while Fluzone High-Dose is indicated for persons 65 years of age and older. Fluzone High-Dose is especially valuable for high-risk seniors who might develop life-threatening complications from catching the flu. For the 18-64 population, (especially those who are afraid of shots) Fluzone Intradermal is a new option for vaccine delivery using a shorter needle injected into the skin rather than the muscle.
Be prepared; flu is unpredictable.
The flu is highly unpredictable. Human behavior shows that in the aftermath of a mild flu season, people often ignore the need to get a flu shot. Last year, the flu outbreak was very mild but this year severe outbreaks have been reported. According to recent reports by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 45 children have died nationwide. The CDC is also reporting record flu rates and deaths among seniors (older than 65 years of age). Health officials confirm that the 2012/13 flu season may be one of the most severe in over a decade.
Health experts agree that flu vaccination is the most effective way to halt the spread of flu. Although the flu season can begin earlier and last longer, it usually starts in December, peaks in January or February, and continues through March. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), while October and November are traditionally the primary vaccination months, late season vaccination is still recommended for those who are not vaccinated earlier.
Fluzone can keep you flu-free.
The flu is nothing to sneeze at. Even if you think you never get the flu, consider getting a dose of flu vaccine to protect those you come in contact with. Vaccines like Fluzone can keep you and those around you flu-free.
