Stage 4 Prostrate Cancer: Symptoms And Its Effects On Body

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among males and it is third on the list of cancer that causes death for males. Patients who are diagnosed with prostate cancer in its early stages have the best chance of having it cured with treatment. Otherwise, the cancer is likely to spread throughout the body or become metastasized. However, it takes time for the disease to get to stage four prostate cancers. The best test for early detection is a blood that measures the levels of the protein that has been named prostate specific antigen or PSA. The prostate gland produces this protein and it is important to the reproductive functions of a male.
Once a diagnosis of prostate cancer has been made other tests must be conducted in order to determine the stage of the cancer. Several tests can be conducted to aid in this determination. One test is called the digital rectal exam with involves the insertion of a finger covered by a glove into the rectum. Other tests include an MRI with the use of a rectal probe or an MRI to search for metastasis of the bones. In addition, a doctor might recommend surgery in order to examine the pelvis ...
... lymph nodes for signs that the cancer is spreading or that the patient has entered prostate cancer stage 4.
In stage four prostate cancers, the disease will have spread or metastasized beyond the prostate to other parts of the body. In fact, prostate cancer stage 4 usually means that the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes, the liver, the bone and/or the lungs. Once the doctor is able to identify the stage the cancer has reached him or she will be able to determine the best treatments and the prognosis. This is the reason it is a good idea to allow the doctor to conduct the tests necessary to make this determination.
When the disease reaches stage IV prostate cancer then it has spread too far for surgery to be an option. Stage 4 prostate cancer is usually treated with hormone therapy and radiation therapy. The hormone therapy is used to get rid of the male hormones that allow the cancer to grow and spread. When the patient has reached the stage IV prostate cancer level then the radiation therapy and the hormone therapy are usually given at the same time for the best results.
