Everything functional on a car will eventually break down, and this includes the locks. While you can always take your car into the shop for lock repairs, you can save a lot of money just by doing it yourself.

Fixing the door locks of your car should not take more than a few hours, and the attempt is well worth the time and money saved. Car door locks are highly important parts of automotive security when you are away from your vehicle. A broken lock can leave your car vulnerable to unscrupulous individuals, so getting it repaired accordingly is highly advisable. Since a car door lock has numerous physical factors involved, everyone should not attempt fixing it.

There are times when the need for lock locksmith repairs arises. For whatever reason, locking mechanisms may not engage and will not move sometimes. Car locks, in particular, have had a problem with an interior clip coming loose, causing the locks not to work optimally. You can fix your car locks in just a few minutes and have them back in working order with just a few steps.

For other ...

In addition, if you’re having a hard time doing this project, you can take your car to a mechanic who will fix the problem for you, or better yet to a locksmith. SW5 locksmiths are experts in lock repairs. Things to Do Before Calling a Locksmith (Finchley):

Steps
1
Put on some gloves and detach the plastic access panel that covers the base of the lock with your hands. Pop off any screw hole covers as well.

2
Slide the panel removal tool beneath the switch control panel. The switch control panel covers the area surrounding the lock and window controls. Carefully pry the panel loose and remove it.

3
Pull out and detach the electrical connector from the panel. The connector should look like a small rectangular box with wires extending from and into it.

4
Dislodge all the door’s connecting screws with a socket wrench. To avoid losing the screws, be sure to put them in a safe area.

5
Remove the door covering.

6
Peel off the plastic sheet the covers the car door’s inner components gently to avoid damaging it.

7
Try to reach into the hole located on the left side of the door latch. Detach the three door lock rods. The first rod will usually be located above the door latch. You’ll easily find this one through a small circular hole. The second rod will be hidden under the door’s panel up into the left of the hole. The remaining rod is directly to the left of the door latch.

8
Unscrew the old or malfunctioning door latch assembly with a socket wrench. A door latch is usually held into place by three screws.

9
Set the new assembly and connect the new rods.

10
Carefully reassemble the door and pop the panels back into their original positions.
