Alaverdi, The Little Place With Big Surprises
A North-Armenian town in the Canyon of Lori, Alaverdi is a small place you might like to stay in for a couple of night if you are on a vacation in Armenia. The weather in Alaverdi is subtle and soothing throughout the year. However, the best time of the year suitable for visiting this place starts from March and ends at October, later than which it gets very cold! July is the best period of the year when you can plan your trip to this place because this is when the weather in Alaverdi is finest.
Tourist places in Alaverdi mainly encompass historically important places. This place was actually a big mine accommodation in the distant past which had been stopped later due to certain issues. However, the mining work has now been restarted on a smaller scale. The old pedestrian bridge is another point of attractions. Further, monasteries constitute the majority of tourist places in Armenia. The old Basilica church, dating back to the 5th century is one of the prime tourist locations. Others include the Sanahan Monastery, the Haghpat monastery, S. Grigory monatery, Akhtala monastery, and few other places.

... few guesthouses and resorts that are comfortable and cozy enough for a decent stay. So, accommodation in Alaverdi is not much of a problem. The Lori guesthouse and the Tufenkian Dzoraget are the most famous posh stay locations. The Anoush hotel and B&B Iris are yet other halting locations. The Odzun guest house provides the least expensive accommodation in Alaverdi although the facilities provided are decent enough for a comfortable stay.
This place is not great as far as food joints are concerned. Therefore, places to eat in Alaverdi are relatively less. The Tufenkian restaurant is a great place for foodies, but it is equally expensive! Then there is an old Soviet restaurant that you can head to by turning left after the highway bridge to Sanahin. Other than these, other places to eat in Alaverdi include the small barbeque joints all along the highway.
There is actually not much to do outside here! Things to do in Alaverdi are really less and unless your motive for vacation is only tranquility, you might not just enjoy this peaceful location! The landscapes here are exceptionally beautiful with lots of greens for your eyes. There is a big stadium where you can spend time. Other than this, tourists coming here prefer to camp, hike and climb up the elevations. So, things to do in Alaverdi include camping, hiking, walking, camping and photography.
It is actually a beautiful place and while planning your trip you must remember that excitement might sometimes be boring. Just to give a break to you energetic trips, tours and vacations, plan a tour to serene Alaverdi!
