Active Forest Management
Introduction to active forest management:
Active Forest management is regarded as a branch of forestry and it is related to various aspects of forest regulations. It deals with aspects such as the legal, economic and social aspects of the forests, along with scientific and technical aspects such as the silviculture, protection, conservation and other forests rules and norms. In details, active forest management deals with the protection and conservation of water, wilderness, wildlife, urban values, wood products, forest genetic resources, aesthetics, fish, recreation and other forest resource values.
Management can be implemented based upon conservation or economics and sometimes a proper blend of the two. For this purpose, it includes planting and replanting of various floras, extraction of timber, preventing forest fire and cutting roads and pathways through forests for public use. Forests have multiple uses, which in turn is resulting in the wipe out and is threatening the sheer existence of forests. People use forests for various reasons such as, fuel wood, fruits, rubber, shelter, oxygen, medicines and etc.
Need ...
... for Active Forest Management
Apart from public use, forests play a very vital role in bringing natural ecological changes that are required from time to time. Active forest management is just not about planting trees and conserving endangered species. It is also about maintaining the ecological balance brought by forests. Forests are needed to be conserved because forests brings and attracts rainfall. Due to forests wipe outs and excessive deforestation, the human civilization has experienced a noticeable change in the pattern of precipitation. The amount of precipitation is unpredictable almost in all parts of the world, and hence an unbalanced water cycle. When all these factors are added up, there is a very significant impact of it on the environment. Forests are like huge sinks that consume carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and give out oxygen which is a life sustaining gas for all human beings. This further helps to purify the air we breathe in.
Apart from this, forests also act as a natural defense system mechanism to prevent soil erosion and keep a check on it. When forests extract carbon dioxide from atmosphere, it also helps to keep a check on the increasing threat of global warming, as carbon dioxide is regarded as a major green house gas. Had forests not been there, we as humans wouldn’t have been able to witness some wonderful and beautiful species of animals, birds and plants.
Conclusion to Active Forest Management
By now it is clear how important active forest management is for us. Active forest management will be a necessity as the demand for forest products is increasing and there is no limit to it. With the expansion in world’s population, the need and demand of such forest products cannot be put under control that easily. With the lapse in taking enough forest management measures, we might witness global and widespread destruction of the entire ecological system along with extreme shortages in the provision of timber wood, fuel wood and thus increasing housing costs along with cut down in employment. It is just not the responsibility of fewer people to take the initiative. With the increase in awareness, everyone has to play a role in ensuring the sustenance of forests for a better future of our upcoming generations.
