In a survey carried out by the road safety charity Brake and the insurance company Direct Line, it was found that more than a quarter of drivers are sending text message from their mobile phones whilst driving. The worst offenders were those who used their cars for work. More than one in seven said that they applied make-up or shaved whilst driving.

The poll also found that more than three-quarters (76%) endangered pedestrians and cyclists by speeding at more than 35mph in built up areas and 54% of drivers who used their cars for work admitted to speeding on 60mph roads, compared with 34% of those who were not on a work-related journey. This poll comes at a time when the government is forcing through legislation that will remove the right of an innocent victim of a road traffic accident from seeking independent legal advice in order to bring a claim against a negligent driver. You couldn't make it up.

A call to all drivers. That text message is never more important than the lives of others. Put your phone down. Get up earlier to apply your make up and to have a shave and leave home earlier. Do not speed. What's ...
... the rush? You'll get there.

And a word to Employers. You are vicariously liable for the actions of your employees on the roads and it will be you who will have to face the music should they cause carnage. That will be a time to call the lawyers and drink driving solicitors.
