Moving flat a few years ago, I managed to stuff the contents of my reasonably spacious, second floor double bedroom into my pokey 2005 model Ford Fiesta. Of course, I had to leave a few things behind; my mattress, my desk and my set of weights*, but all in all I thought I'd made a pretty good job of things.
Driving precariously home in the slow lane of the motorway, it did occur to me that I'd perhaps made a mistake, my exuberant packing have completely blocked my rear windscreen. But this was only a fleeting thought, and my attention was soon back on the road, carefully tracing the white dotted lines of the inside lane to my destination - a new flat, not far from my old one, but closer to work and with a somewhat better view.
