Tissue can be defined as a cellular intermediate between complete organism and cells. A group of similar cells having same origin and similar in function gets ensemble to form a tissue. From these tissues the organs are formed. While these are common information about human tissues, there are several aspects that often remain in the dark.
A single human tissues can play crucial role in medical research work and teaching process. The bio-medical industry has met with tremendous advancement. It has grown up to an altogether different height. Human tissues are required in large number for research, commercial, and validation purpose in this industry. Both archival and fresh tissues are used for these purposes. Scientific and medical usage of human tissue does include pharmaceutical testing, genetic research, and organ transplantation. These tissues are mostly used to have a clear understanding about the diseases that affect human beings more frequently. Accordingly, the research work for developing new treatments for such diseases is carried out.

When tissues from living subjects are extracted for the purpose of clinical audit, education and quality assurance, there is no requirement of any consent. But, if tissues from dead individuals are obtained, then proper legal consent is a must. These days, it is not difficult to obtain tissues from hospitals and nursing homes because of low restrictions and checks. Also, use of tissues for commercial and research purpose has been made legal by the legislation. It is very common scenario that bio-medical company agents approach different pathology departments for tissues associated with cancer of lungs, breast, and colon. Such requests can never be turned away since they are used for cancer research for constructing tissue microarrays.
