The latest version of Apple’s operating system was launched in the US market towards the later half of 2012. While there has been both criticism and praise for this OS platform from users and mobile analysts, Apple iOS 6 has undoubtedly enabled experiencing the Apple products in a different way. In fact, most enterprise brands and mobile product strategists who consider interaction with existing and potential customers of Apple a necessity, choose to use the updated and latest version of iOS 6. Listed below are few changes that the iOS 6 operating system has introduced in the consumers’ mobile usage patterns:

Emergence of New Consumer Applications – Though statistics claim that there have been more than 900,000 Android device activation per day over the last year, the Apple devices provide more interaction opportunities with the end users. Out of the 365 million mobile devices running the iOS platform sold in 2012, 125 million were purchased by iCloud users. Also, 225,000 out of 650,000 iOS apps selling in the market are iPad specific. Such phenomenon has been realized only after the launch of the iOS 6 platform. ...
... According to researchers of the Apple mobile market, the first generation of iOS applications (those released before the launch of iOS 6) could not make effective and complete usage of the attributes that the Apple mobile platform provided. Perhaps only the social networking and gaming iOS applications provided unique features and functionality. The second wave of consumer mobile apps which are integrated with the back end systems and are designed to suit the features of iOS 6 are more contextual and personalized, hence more popular among the target audience.

200 New Features of iOS 6 – The transition to designing of second generation Apple applications has been possible because of the 200 new features that have been introduced on iOS 6. The first among them is the integration of Facebook into iOS 6. In the latest version of Apple’s operating system, not only your Facebook contacts but also their birthdays and events created are synced with the device calendar in order to be used as reminders. The second most important feature is the new Passbook app of iOS 6 which allows securing ticket information, collecting loyalty cards, and accessing any relevant information just at the click of a button. Moreover, the passbook application is also location enabled therefore it displays information relevant to the location of the user. Researchers have already claimed that the Passbook app is the first step to creating digital wallets; soon, the app will integrate with the credit cards saved on Apple files. The third most important feature is the Apple Maps. But unlike the competitor applications, Apple Maps is not an attempt to better on location services; it is rather an addition to the Apple products, acting as the enabler of new Apple product experiences. Navigation and mapping services introduced by Apple as part of iOS 6 are in response to the competition posed by Google Maps. Apple did not want to depend on a competitor’s solution, and thus introduced its oown mapping technology along with iOS 6.

The new features of iOS 6 have been designed to benefit both the mobile user and the app developer. These features have indeed contributed towards changing the mobile experience of consumers.
