What it takes for a myth to get attached with any one particular thing? Money, fan-following, luck and mystery. Online poker is not immune to this, and as always is the case, poker myths are baseless.

MYTH 1:
The best poker player always wins.
REALITY
Come on! How is it possible? Not even Tiger Woods or Michael Schumacher did achieve this feat in their respective fields, despite being among the all time best players of their games.
The most successful hold ‘em player will only win around 60- 80 percent of their sessions, and that too depends upon their playing styles. So the odds of defeating the all time best poker player are 20- 40 percent. This is significantly high keeping in mind the difference between the levels of expertise of the best and the rest.
MYTH 2:
Great poker players ...
... are born great and no one can be trained for greatness.
REALITY
This is a lie. It takes hard work, discipline, eagerness to learn and commitment to achieve greatness in any walk of life, poker is not an exception to this.

If we make such claims then we are insulting the hard work and the extensive study of the games and the strategies done by Stu Ungar to improve his game.
I have yet to come across a poker player who doesn't need to study, scrutinize the game and practice it on and on. Practice, practice, and practice; this is what differentiates a great poker player from a mediocre poker player.
MYTH 3
Bluffing is the best strategy. The best poker player often bluffs.
REALITY
Bluffing, indeed, is fun and when used delicately, this can fetch the desired result as well. But, this is not the ultimate weapon and will not always be effective. The timing of bluffing should be precise and should not be done when the pot is hot. Bluffing on a big pot can really be expensive.
MYTH 4
Online Poker rooms are rigged.
REALITY
This is a human nature to blame others for one's own folly. Most of the players who lose in online poker claim that the system is rigged and they have been deceived. This is not possible, as the owners of online poker rooms are public companies, whose activities are constantly monitored by the governments of their hosting countries. The software, these poker rooms run on are created by the best gaming software companies and there has been few recorded incidence of any tampering done by any online poker room.
MYTH 5
I lost because of the bad opponents.
REALITY
This shifting-blame-to-others strategy is used by many losing poker players. This act gives them the psychological confidence they are seeking. That's it. There is no truth in this claim. There are many things that can go wrong but not this one. Bad opponent cannot make you lose your game.
