255 255 What Is My IP ? Have this question ever arose in your mind? An IP address is assigned to each computer on an IP network in the form of a numerical identifier. It marks the specific location of a device on the network. It is usually a sequence of digits separated by dotted decimal numbers and represented from 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255. An IP address is an address of the software and is designed in a way that the host on a network will be able to communicate with the host on another network, regardless of the type of LAN. This IP address or Internet Protocol is unique for every computer same as the fingerprint is to us.

An IP address allows a networked device to speak to the next networked device. When you add a Web site to your browser, the Web site name will be translated into some figures known as an IP address and then the computer is managed with that IP address. There are so many websites that run on an IP address on a server. One must have observed that all the sites on the Internet are set not by their domain name, but by its IP address. Typing the IP address in enough to take you to your desired website. A specific Web site with its own IP address and you have not shared it with any site, is termed as a static IP address. There is a possibility that multiple sites are being used on a single IP address, which is generally known as sharing IP or shared IP address.

The person having a static IP address, will be able to make use of SSL encryption Certificate which is required for e-commerce. This certificate is required in order to prevent intercepting of information when one wants to transfer some sensitive data over the internet. An encryption certificate is only provided to a website that has its own IP address also known as static IP. It does not work for a website having a shared IP.
