Rejoice Spring At The Garden Museum
Spring is in bloom next month and what better way to rejoice the great outdoors than with a tour to the Garden Museum in London.
The only museum of this kind in Britain, it shows the history and design of the nation's gardens, showing plenty of creative ideas for those who take it with them and apply to their own homes.
It's confirmed to be the deserted ancient church of St Mary's and advertises 3 major exhibitions following numerous parts of gardens, including paintings, garden tools, artefacts and other ephemera.
Tourists need not be green fingered in order to appreciate a trip to this amazing museum, which even goes into detail appraising legendary gardeners, while also showing replicas of gardens through history.
Created in the 80s, the museum's garden is the essential part of the entire place and designed by its president, the Dowager Marchioness of Salisbury, who grants a real 17th century theme all over the traditional plants and structures.
Inside the garden tourists can learn more about the plants used, which include exquisite kinds of species such as the scarlet runner bean, red maple ...
... and tulip tree.
Cared for and run by a small horticultural staff group and volunteers, this London attraction is not only historically important but also a eccentric spot of natural beauty and scenery situated in the centre of the capital.
There are many exhibitions on display, and to receive spring a new display will be unveiled for families to enjoy.
Floriculture - Flowers, Love and Money (February 14th - April 28th 2013)
Opening on Valentine's Day this exhibition is essential for couples who rejoice in nurturing their gardens and have a keen interest in flowers.
It's the first show from the Garden Museum to tell the story of the cut flower trade, dating back from the 17th century and until this day.
It begins in Covent Garden, the square which was originally made by the Earl of Bedford and had a market for fruit and vegetables.
This is portrayed through illustrations by Edward Bawden and iconic films, featuring stories of life at this most famous flower market.
The display then moves forward to the 19th century, when wholesale trade in flowers was small scale and local, but this soon evolved with the daffodils and growers of snowdrops in Lincolnshire.
This saw a new confidence on rail travel to transport London markets with flowers, with bulbs even being shipped overseas for trade.
Here and now the flower trade is worth in excess of £64 billion worldwide.
However, this has brought problems of environmental impacts, vulnerable workforces and transportation.
Through this new presentations visitors will be shown all sides of the debate, and also the new movement for Fair Trade in flowers, and a rise in eco-aware, small scale growers.
It will also consider the quick mortality of cut flowers and how they play an important role in many rites of life, including births, weddings, funerals and memorials, as well as being a commonly given gift.
