Exotic Affordable Destinations

Cheap travel options, including cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, and cheap vacation packages are placing many destinations within the reach of people who must travel on strict budgets. All too often would be visitors simply mistakenly assume that the most popular vacation destinations are too expensive.
The following are dynamic destinations that many a visitor can afford with a little planning:
• St Barthelemy in the Caribbean can be visited by flying via JetBlue, which is an economy airline, into St. Maarten. Then it is just a 10 minute puddle jumper ride to St. Barts. If money is tight, consider renting a villa and cooking your own meals. Free public beaches are readily available and you can make picnics with bread, cheese and fruit from a local supermarket or one of the island’s renowned takeout joints.
• Paris has a plentiful supply of one and two star hotels that offer few amenities but plenty of charm. You don’t have to spend a dime to stroll down one of the world’s grandest boulevards, the Champs-Elysees or take in the blossoms in the Tuileries Gardens. Affordable Paris ...
... Visite passes provide unlimited travel on the city’s subways and buses. Relaxed bistros offer hearty three course meals for under $50.
• Even Hawaii can be an affordable vacation destination if you plan ahead and avoid visiting during the busiest tourist times (winter and summer) of the year. Airfares and hotel rates are cheapest in the spring and fall. Many of Hawaii’s parks and public beaches are free or very inexpensive, including the black sand beach at Punalu’u Beach Park and the stunning black lava fields at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
• New York City can definitely be enjoyed on a budget. There are many reasonably priced chain hotels that offer complimentary breakfast and are nearby the city’s most popular sights. The city’s subway and buses make getting around cheap and quick. Many of New York’s attractions are free, including the urban esplanade (referred to as the “High Line”), the Smithsonian’s Museum of the American Indian, the impressive New York Public Library, and the incredibly touching 9/11 Memorial. A single dollar still buys a slice of pizza or NYC bagel.
• Venice offers moderately priced hotels and B&Bs in the Cannaregio neighborhood and on the Lido, a beach island 10 minutes from Venice. Many a tourist is thrilled just strolling through the city’s streets and over the many canal bridges. You can tour the impressive cathedral interiors of the Basilica di San Marco and Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute for free. Dine like the locals in casual neighborhood cafes and bars on delicious, inexpensive filled triangular mini-sandwiches and tapas style finger foods.
