Mizoram Tourist Guide

Mizoram is a magnificently picturesque state that is located towards the North Eastern region in India.
The state is bordered by the neighbouring states of Assam, Tripura and Manipur; the state also shares its boundaries with countries such as Burma and Bangladesh. The capital city of Mizoram is Aizawl and the language widely spoken in the state is Mizo.
The state was originally a small district under the statehood of Assam and was run by the local chieftains. In the 19th century, the place was invaded and raided by many village chieftains. Mizoram has 21 hills, which are scattered around the state; the average height of these is 3,281 feet.

The major festivals are Mim Kut, Chapchar Kut and Pawl Kut. Pawl Kut and Mim Kut are celebrated during the months of November and December; these festivals are celebrated to signify the completion of the harvesting season. Various traditional songs, dance and games are carried out during the festival.
Chhimtuipui is the largest river in Mizoram and originates in Burma. Covering an area of 74 hectares, the Palak Lake is the largest lake in the state. It is said that the lake was created due to an earthquake or flood. A view from Bawngkawn in Aizawl can be breathtaking as you see a cluster of Blue Mountains.
Chapchar Kut celebrates the onset of the harvesting season, and it is celebrated in the month of February. Many men and women with colourful and distinctive clothes and head gears sing songs and dance.
Thalfavang Kut is celebrated in the month of November after the land is weeded before the harvesting season. Christmas is the largest festival in Mizoram and every city, town and locality is lighted up during this time.
Getting To Mizoram
The Lengpui Airport connects Aizawl to Kolkata, Guwahati and Imphal on a daily basis. Trains link the state at Bairabi, which is a few kilometres away from Kolasib; however, it is a meter gauge rail route. The nearest major railway station is Lumding. The state is connected to the whole country by NH-54. The nearest railway station that connects the state with all metro cities in India is the Guwahati railway station.
