Solved problem 1: At the neighborhood block party, Delilah served `1/2` of a gallon of hot chocolate and `1/4` of a gallon of apple cider. How much more hot chocolate than apple cider did Delilah serve?

Solution:

Find how much more hot chocolate than apple cider Delilah served by subtracting `1/4` from `1/2` .

Multiply the numerator and the denominator of `1/2` by 2 to find an equivalent fraction.

`(1* 2)/(2 * 2) = 2/4`

Now subtract the fractions.

`2/4 - 1/4 = 1/4`

`1/4` is written in simplest form.

Delilah served` 1/4` of a gallon more hot chocolate than apple cider.

Answer: Delilah served `1/4` of a gallon more hot chocolate than apple cider.
