Supply chain management usually denote the movement and storage of raw materials from supplier to customer. It essentially describe the multiple activities related to the movement of goods from its point of origin to the
point of consumption. These activities are intended to maximize customer value with a competitive edge in relation to one another. So every supply chain firms aims to develop and handle supply chain activities in the most effective & efficient ways as much as it can. These activities include product development, sourcing, production, and logistics, together with the information systems needed to coordinate these activities. A quite demanding and hectic career, supply chain management is much akin to marketing and sales channel management which are based on targets with active negotiation skills with vendors. Retail, being a high growth sector and highly in focus in recent days, a career in supply chain management can be a very good decision for many management aspirants.

The minimum eligibility to do a course in supply chain management is 10+2 as courses are offered mostly at diploma and post graduate level in the field in India. A graduate degree is required from any stream to pursue a
post graduate diploma in supply chain.
Supply chain area holds a very important position in any organization as it directly create an impact on the productivity of the company. So it commands an important role in any organization. It has huge prospects and has great potentialities in terms of job. Professionals can perform various responsibilities being as Commodity Buyer, supply planner, supplier manager, purchasing executives, implementation manager, procurement officer, material manager, inventory manager etc.
Some big recruiting groups like HLL, Asian Paints, Godrej, Cadbury, Tata Motors etc recruit supply chain professionals with good salaries. In the very beginning pay can be between Rs 10000 and 15000 per month, in the
field though after some years of experience pay increase significantly.
