Treatment for cataract
The most common form of Kamra eye procedure for cataract is surgery. An ultrasonic probe that uses ultrasonic vibrations, which dissolves the affected lens, is introduced into the eye. The affected lens is then replaced by artificial lens after the destroyed parts of the lens are sucked through the ultrasound lens. The artificial lens is called an intraocular lens and functions just like a natural lens in the eye.

Kamra eye procedure for this condition is approached in two different ways namely; phacoemulsification and extracapsular surgery.

Extracapsular surgery: This is mostly used in cases where the natural eye lens has hardened so much making its fragmentation by ultrasound impossible. A larger incision is usually made and the cataract removed in one piece. Both the lens and its surrounding capsular are removed with the intraocular lens being placed in a different location altogether. The recovery period is usually longer. This technique also requires anaesthetic doses during the surgery and an eye patch after the surgery.

Phacoemulsification: This is the most common form of surgery and can be performed in approximately 30 minutes. It requires minimum sedation and follows no stitches or eye patches to protect the eye.
