Mithali Raj All Round Woman And Cricketer
Indian cricket has been making news for all the wrong reasons these days. The main reason that is hounding the Indian team sports these days seem to be the outburst of reaction following the death of two Indian soldiers by the hands of the Pakistan army at the border. No group activity is spared. Following the atrocity, several extremist activists such as Shiv Sena AND Right Wing organizations have expressed vociferously their disgust and resentment towards the transpirations. They are protesting the presence of Pakistani athletes or sportspersons in India. Most of these outbursts are centered in Mumbai where many of these events are set to take place including the Indian womens cricket team World Cup.
A riot had already erupted outside the practice sessions of the Hockey Indian League, with activists demanding that the Pakistani players be sent home immediately; and that is exactly what happened within a week. The same incident is most likely to take place before the Indian womens cricket team World Cup. The Pakistan Cricket Board has officially requested extra security measures involving a change in venue, from the ...
... Board of Cricket Coucil in India, to ensure the safety of their women athletes. On 18 January, the venue, as per the demand, was shifted to Odisha while a different schedule is being worked out for matches involving the Pakistani women’s cricket team.
The World Cup tournament will be the tenth in the series and the third to take place in India. The eight teams will battle it out with each other starting from January 31 through February 17. India, being the hosts, is set to play against West Indies in the opening day itself. The fifteen member women’s team will be captained by Mithali Raj.
On her One Day International debut itself she managed to impress by scoring 114 runs without being dismissed. Mithali Raj profile nationwide attention in 2004 when she secured 214 runs in a Test match against England. In the same match, she took her highest score to date of 467 runs. As per the ICC World Women's Cricket rankings in 2010, she is adjudged as foremost batswoman in India. She is all set to lead the team in the upcoming Women’s world Cup in 2013. For all her contributions and achievements in the field of sports, she was conferred with the Arjuna Award in 2003. Besides being a world class cricketer, Raj is also a classical dancer trained in Bharata Natyam.
