Introduction for line segments:

Line segments are the basic concepts in lines and geometry chapter in the mathematics subject. A line segment has more definitions; Line is a straight path and the endless mark. Line segment is a small distance in a big line, which are both directions having an end points. And line segments have so many types. Here we have to explain about six important types of line segments below.

Line Segment Definition:

A line segment is a small distance or part of a big line. It has two end points on both direction of a line. A straight line is join with two points, coordinates without extending the line after that the end point. Otherwise line segment is explained by “the closed portion corresponds to a particular portion of an infinitely extending line”.

Types of Line Segments:

So many types of line segments are there; six of it can be ordered as,

1. Parallel line segments,

2. ...
... Perpendicular line segments,

3. Vertical line segments,

4. Horizontal line segments,

5. Intersecting line segments, and

6. Oblique line segments.

And one more important point is, when a line segment is not a straight path, and then it is called as “arc”.

Explanatory for all the Six Line Segments:

1. Parallel line segments:

Two or more than two lines are known as parallel lines. It is called as parallel line segments. The both lines are not intersecting with another line. And also it has same slopes. All the vertical lines are parallel lines and line segments.

2. Perpendicular line segments:

Perpendicular lines are also lines which are lines intersect with 90o degree angle. And the both lines are perpendicular to each other lines. Its slopes also equal.

It means any two lines intersect at exactly at perpendicular in one point. And it makes angle of 90 degree.

3. Vertical line segments:

One line that is goes to straight line up and down, and its slope which is undefined is called as vertical line segments. Undefined is means of infinite.

4. Horizontal line segments:

The horizontal line segment is also a line, whose slope is zero; it is called as horizontal line segments.

These all four line segments are the important line segments.

5. Intersecting line segments:

Intersecting lines or intersecting line segments will meet a single point. Its slope is not equal to zero.

Here the above intersecting line segments figure shows the two line segments AB and CD. And the intersecting mid point is O.

6. Oblique line segments:

When a line is not a multiple of 90o degrees, and angle is not less than 90o and not more than 180o degrees is known as oblique angle line, its segment is oblique segments

And it has one definite slope; its slope is not equaled to zero. Those oblique lines are coplanar lines, which is neither parallel nor perpendicular.
