The Human Resource Department (HRD) in any organization is the department that oversees the recruitment of new employees, their appropriate training, administering different kinds of employee benefit programs and several other things.

The different organizations in the Oil and Gas sector are gradually realigning their HR strategies in order to match the core and key business objectives of the Oil and Gas sector. A big issue with the Oil and Gas sector is, it is facing a talent crunch and this has made the role of HR personnel in this sector a lot more challenging. The unfortunate truth about the Oil and Gas industry is, for decades it ignored or failed to realize the importance of the HR department in the organizations but the fortunate fact is that the sector has finally woken up to the importance of HR in the entire value chain of an organization.

Therefore, the HR department does not get much time to chalk out long term policies or strategies that will help them to deal with the talent crisis. Another problem that HR personnel face in the Oil and Gas sector is, the business strategies of the organized and reviewed and modified at regular intervals but the business bosses fail to review the strategies of the HR department as regularly.

However, the good news is that organizations, albeit few, have realized that the functions of the HR department needs to be addressed if the management wants the organization to function smoothly. Therefore the HR department has been allowed to come up with new managerial techniques like systematic assessment tests based professional recruitment, management based on competency, planning of career and succession and comprehensive compensation models. The HR department of whichever Oil and Gas company can demonstrate such techniques; can ensure the long term success of the organization.
