Introduction to Planets of the Universe:

The unlimited space around us consisting of solar system, stars, galaxies etc. is called universe. Planets are a part of the solar system in the universe. Planets do not emit light of their own, but they appear bright as they reflect light of sun. These are heavenly bodies revolving around the sun in elliptical orbits. In the order of increasing distance from sun, the planets of the universe are:

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.

Some information about mass, size and period of rotation etc. of the planets of the universe is given below:

Planets of the Universe:

1. Mercury:

1. It is the closest planet to the sun.

2. It is the hottest planet of the solar system. Its day temperature reaches 427°C and night temperature reaches -183°C.

3. It can be seen with naked eye.

4. Its mean diameter is 4878 km.

5. As there is no atmosphere and water, so no life is possible on this planet.

2. It is the heaviest and the biggest planet of solar system.

4. Atmosphere of Jupiter contains poisonous gases, so life is not possible.

5. Its mean diameter is 1,42,984 km.

6. Saturn:

1. Next to Jupiter, Saturn is sixth planet.

2. It can be seen with naked eye.

3. Life is not possible on this planet.

4. It is the second biggest and heaviest planet of solar system.

5. Its ring is made up of ice, rocks and dust.

6. Its diameter is 1,20,536 kms.

9. Pluto:

1. It is ninth planet of our solar system.

2. Being at a large distance from sun, it is the coldest planet.

3. It cannot be seen with naked eye.

4. It is the lightest planet of solar system

5. Its diameter is 2300 km.
