In a world increasingly dependent on information technology, many business use computers to better communicate and make more money. The more developed the business is, the more it is dependent on computers and it requires its own IT specialists. Some computers work in a network which connects them to a small number of dedicated servers which receive requests from the other computers in the network, they process them and then they send data to the other computers. In order to keep all the data necessary for a server to operate in order and make sure it’s not lost, RAID systems were formed. RAID is a technique through which a number of cheaper Hard Disk Drives are connected in such a way that the RAID controller distributes the data within the drives. RAID systems do break down for different reasons and in order to recover RAID arrays, the help of professionals is sometimes needed.

The situation is less complicated if in a RAID system of a higher level, only one drive breaks down because if the faulty drive is found, then it’s easy to just replace with another drive which works. RAID systems usually fail when more disks ...
... break down at the same time and the data becomes inaccessible and might be lost. Companies say that in a big number of cases, this happens due to user error and not the malfunctions of the actual RAID system. One example which might sometimes happen is when the disk which doesn’t function properly is not detected and replaced. The system can work without detecting a faulty disk drive and then the second cheaper drive breaks down and then the whole system doesn’t work and the data is lost. In this case, one server which uses that RAID system doesn’t function properly, and it doesn’t matter if the server is the email server or the file managing server, or the applications or web server.

The data is lost, the time is lost, and the business has problems. Servers do break down for technical reasons sometimes, and the problem might be detected when certain data is either lost or can’t be accessed. This is usually caused when there are software malfunctions, or the operating system fails, or when the RAID controller fails, or there’s a boot failure, or a rebuild failure. Other problems relating to hardware malfunction might be a damaged RAID configuration and even physically damaged hard drives in the array, or a RAID array failure in which the system doesn’t work. RAID recovery services usually warn users to not try to fix the system by themselves, least they want to lose their data. In order to fix RAID arrays, one usually needs a clean laboratory in a number of people who have a certain experience in repairing RAID systems. Most of the problems that services report, happen when the users try to repair the array themselves and only complicate things even worse. The technology used to repair the issues of those systems is also not in the hands of everybody in a business’s IT department, and if the drives are prevented against further damage, the data recovery becomes more and more comfortable.
