Perfect Your Faith With Islamic Pilgrimage
The hajj pilgrimage, which attracts between two to three million people every year, has developed into a modern sight. It is accepted to be one of the five pillars of Islamic religion, where every Muslim believer who can afford for it is indebted to visit Mecca for the hajj once in his/her lifetime and non-Muslims are strictly prohibited to come to the city.
The word Hajj, linguistically, refers to visiting a place for completing the religious duty; in Islamic language, it suggests traveling to Makah to observe the sacraments of Islamic pilgrimage.
Hajj is truly known to be the perfection of religion, as it enjoins in itself all the distinguishing qualities of other mandatory actions of prayer, endurance, hardship and comforts of life, devoutness, Zakat (charities), slaughtering the sacrifice and supplication. In fact, the Islamic pilgrimageis an introduction to the divine visit to Allah, when man would bid farewell to everything present in the world, and offer himself before Allah as His modest servant says: 'Here I am before You, my Lord,as a slave.
'
It is written in the story of Abraham; hajj ...
... is a set of ceremonies completed every year for five days in the month of Dhu al-Hijjah. Hajis follow the path of Muhammad, who performed only one hajj before he expired. It arises in Mecca, then the desert of Mina, then to Arafat for a day-long wake, then to the stony plain of Muzdalifah, a few miles away, where travelers gather gravels to ceremonially pebble the Devil, and then comes back to Mina for three days.Back in Mecca, travelers bid good-bye to the Kaaba, the dice-formed granite structure that is the divinest place in Islam.
In primitive times, Mecca was a small, sophisticated town, with its roads lined with old-style houses. The oil bang of the second half of the twentieth century conveyed contemporary technology to Saudi Arabia, but the artistic modification of traditional Islamic building began to vanish. Beginning in the mid-seventies, the ancient houses were swapped with dull towers.
The travelers begin arriving by airborne, marine, and terrestrial, during the weeks prior to the haj period. They usually reach to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the main harbor city adjacent to Mecca (45 miles distance). From there they travel with their Hajj crowd to Mecca. As they come to Mecca, they halt at one of the chosen parts to bath and change clothing, arriving into a state of piety and cleanliness for the journey.
