Madhya Pradesh was the largest state in India until a separate state of Chhattisgarh was carved out. Bhopal is the capital of Madhya Pradesh and Hindi is the widely spoken language here.

Madhya Pradesh, as the name suggests, is located in the central part of India. Madhya Pradesh shares borders with Gujarat to the west, Maharashtra to the southwest and south, Chhattisgarh to the southeast, Uttar Pradesh to the north and northeast and Rajasthan to the northwest. The river Narmada runs between the Vindhya and Satpura ranges in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Places to Visit
Madhya Pradesh houses a rich variety of flora and fauna. This has been the key reason for 9 National Parks to be set up in this state. Tigers and Panthers can be spotted in Kanha National Park, Sanjay National Park, Pench, Satpura National Park, Van Vihar National Park and Bandhavgarh National Park. Other animals that can be spotted in these forests are Chital, Gaur, Nilgai, Leopard, Black Buck, Barasingha and Bisons.
The Rock Shelters in Bhimbetka is more than 30,000 years old and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Khajuraho Temples, another architectural marvel, are known for the remarkable sculptures carved on the walls. Madhya Pradesh also has an array of temples like Devi Jagdamba Temple, Lakshman Temple, Chitragupteshwara Temple, Kandariya Mahadeo Temple, Matangeshwara Temple and Chaunsat Yogini
Hindolamahal, famous for its arched interiors, Bir Singh's Palace and the Sanchi Stupa are other heritage sites that attract tourists. Dhuandar falls at Bhedaghat and RajatPrapat falls are famous tourist sites in Madhya Pradesh.


Madhya Pradesh has a lot to offer for adventure tourists as well. Trekking through the Satpura range, river rafting in Betwa River, mountaineering in Amarkantak, boating in Narmada and Parasailing in Panchmarhi are some of the activities in which the tourists can indulge themselves.


How to Reach

Air: Madhya Pradesh has one International airport located in Bhopal. There are flights to select international destinations from here. There are five domestic airports in Bhopal, Indore, Khajuraho, Jabalpur and Gwalior. These airports connect ply regular flights to major Indian cities.


Rail: Madhya Pradesh is well connected by the West Central Railways. 20 major junctions in Madhya Pradesh ply regular trains to cities near and far. Bhopal, Gwalior, Itarsi, Jabalpur, Ujjain and Ratlam Junctions are some of the most prominent railway stations in the state.


Road: There are 18 National Highways and 50 State Highways that efficiently link cities in Madhya Pradesh to other states. Taxis can be hired inside the state to travel to nearby places.
