Useful Tips To Take Into Account When Painting The Surface Of Your Building
Maintaining a home or building can be a daunting task especially if you don't know what to do and where to start. At some point, you can start with the restoration or renovation areas, such as putting up a new paint for the wall.
Most painters that have been around the trade for a while know that in the painting world, there is an old phrase, Putty and paint will make it what it ain't, and for the most part, this can hold true. For example, this is true when we come in behind some questionable sheet rock or a slightly off-cut piece of trim. These are some of the things painters can come across and deal with pretty easily.
One of the most frustrating things a painter runs into is painting bright accent colors. Trying to paint an off-white wall to bright red or neon green can be murder. After putting on three or four coats and still seeing the lines and shadows can make you absolutely crazy. Unfortunately, painting bright accent colors is a very inexpensive way for home owners or developers to quickly change the appearance of their building and, therefore observers or visitors see a lot of it. So, in order ...
... to make everyone's job a little easier, here are two suggestions on ways to get colors to cover better.
1. Picking accent colors
When picking accent colors, it is best to get the painter to pick stock or factory tinted colors. Your painter can provide you with a color chart of these. And if they want custom tinted colors, there is still hope.
For custom tinted accent colors, the paint base that manufacturers have to start with is very transparent and tint is added. This is what gives it the color. However, even then it usually remains somewhat transparent. It is highly recommended to use quick-dry, monochromatic gray primer as a base coat. This will allow the painter to top coat it with the accent base quickly, and the gray will help the paint appear more even and opaque.
2. Painting back to standard
So the store promotion is finished and it is time to paint back towhat? What color was that wall supposed to be again? This is not uncommon at all. In fact, most people know what color walls should be. The problem is that during work or in the field, things are not always what they should be. There is no perfect answer for this. Here are some things that can be of great help.
On the first trip out to paint the accent color, take a sample of the paint that should be on the wall and test it. If it matches, make a note of it and all is well. If the test does not match, you have one of two choices. You can use a professional color fan deck to match it and return with the matching but incorrect color; or, you can use the correct color and paint the walls all the way to the nearest clean break so that the difference is not noticeable. The latter only works if the correct color and the actual colors are close.
One of the best ways we have found to assure that the walls are painted with the correct paint is to have a record or spreadsheet or some simple internet-based tracking system, continually updated, using data from the painters in the work area, as the whole painting project is completed. This is also helpful for partial or high-traffic painting projects. It is observed that by tracking these little things, it not only serves your purpose better and it makes the painter's job as well as your task much easier.
